Longboarders:
Les Robertson
Les was born in Vancouver a number of years before Rob and has traveled around the world extensively reminding himself why he makes Vancouver his home, trying to find something he won’t eat, and practicing his negotiation skills by haggling just for the fun of it. He recently graduated from the Sauder School of Business, R. H. Lee Graduate School MBA program with a specialization in Strategy and International Business and spent a semester abroad studying at the Copenhagen Business School. Les is an independent management consultant, social media hack, eco innovation warrior, and pro sports fan (even if the Seahawks will never win a superbowl). Don’t mess with him or he’ll send his dog Mabel after you.
Rob Foxall
Rob was born in Vancouver a number of years after Les and has travelled even more extensively around the world chasing an ever expanding network of connections, adventure, malaria, and beer. He recently graduated from the Sauder School of Business BComm Co-op program with a specialization in Finance and is still actively involved with a number of initiatives he helped start including the Venture Capital and Private Equity Club and the Canadian Investment Conference. Besides the Sauder Africa Initiative, Rob also volunteers with Junior Achievement, The United Way, and has been a Scouts Canada leader since 2005. No one is really sure how he has survived as long as he has.
Support (in Kenya):
Martina Valkovicova
Martina was born and raised in small village in Slovakia, if she didn’t leave she would’ve had to marry her goat Bolek. All her beliefs can be summarized in one thought: “Change the world or go home.” Martina is a 1st year MBA student at the Sauder School of Business, President of the MBA Society and has 10 years working experience in both the private and public sectors. She has studied in England and Greece, travelled extensively and has a master’s degree from University of Economics in Bratislava. Martina’s not quiet sure why she has offered to help Rob and Les, other than wanting to be a part of the ridiculousness and adventure of it all – and they told her they would buy her drinks along the way.
Leo Valentine Orega
Valentine brings much needed experience and style to our motley crew – we’re lucky to have him. He’s the Wheelman, a Kenyan, friend and an SE101 graduate. If Bolek was his goat we’d all have eaten him for Nyama Choma already. Valentine is an entrepreneur who, much like Mr. T and McGiver, can get just about any Kenyan Matatu running, bumpin’ and ready for action. When asked the question, “Why would you chase 2 Canadian kids on longboards across Kenya?” His only response was, “Tusker.”
More to come…
