Heading to Longboard Kenya

What’s the UBC Sauder Africa Initiative: Social Entrepreneurship 101 program and the Centre for Entrepreneurship? How did the www.skate4kenya.com idea get its start? In the first video post, from inside the Vancouver Airport, Les explains how it all began as he is about to board his plane and head to Nairobi, Kenya for SE101 2010.

Special thanks to Long Treks on Skate Decks for inspiration and Rayne Longboards for supplying the equipment to make this all possible!

Incredible publicity for this event. I believe that it is easier to raise funds from local corporates than it is international. So I would suggest that you make good use of the local media to express the need for well established businesses in Kenya such as Tusker, Safaricom and Nakumatt to fund this program. Every business looks for a unique way to exhibit their corporate social responsibility- and I believe this may represent that very opportunity. So do take time to target local enterprises and present your idea to them and I assure you it will pay off. Many of them may even agree to fund your cause for the years to come. Hope this proves useful.

  3. Hey Pato. Major wipeout today! All is good though. I like your idea (and yours Shazia – missed you at grad!). I think there is still time for sponsorship and this will not be the only trip. If you have and media contacts – news, tv, or radio – please put us in touch. We blasted the Nation Media, but no response yet. Cheers. Keep following and tell everyone you know!!
